Does the palm pilot work like a cell phone?

I was just given a palm pilot as a gift - a hand-me-down from a family member who just bought something better but it is in brand new shape (She just bought it about a month ago) but I have no idea what to do with it! She is always really busy so I don't want to bother her w/any stupid questions. Please give me as much info! Thanks!

I suspect that by "Palm Pilot" you actually mean a Personal Digital Assistant, or PDA - as Palm Pilots were a specific range of PDAs made by Palm between 1996 and 1998.

Many modern PDAs can be used as a cell phone, but it depends on the individual model. Generally, the cell phone capable models have a slot behind the bettery to add a SIM card (which connects the PDA to your mobile phone service).

However, it's capable of a lot more than just telephony. PDAs originated as mobile information managers - allowing you to take all your contacts, addresses, schedules and calendars with you wherever you go. They've evolved into miniature mobile computers now, with the ability to support computer games, databases, music playback, and voice recording. You can add applications that will turn them into a guitar tuner, language translator, or much much more. Most modern PDAs will connect to other PDAs, your computer, or your cellphone, to exchange information or allow you to surf the Internet using your PDA without a wired modem connection. And many PDAs have a built-in digital camera, capable of taking both still photos or motion video with sound.

If you've got a manual with your PDA, that would be the first place to start looking to find out all the things your particular model is capable of.
Reply:%26lt;you could give it to me!

Whatever you want, calendar, address book, games. It all depends on the model. On the new ones you have bluetooth and internet access and some you even use as cell phones to send sms, mms and call. You can listen to music, watch videos (with some kind of external card). If it's a pocket pc, then you can do most of the stuff you can do on a regular windows pc.
