My daughter was born with a birthmark that covers the palm of her left hand, anyone heard of this before?

She is 3 years old, it has grown with her, her pediatrician says that she has never seen anyone have any pigmentation on the palm of their hands. Several other doctors agree, but no one seems to have any theories. It doesn't seem to bother her, actually, she seems pretty proud of it and likes to show it off!

I had a friend who had something similar. She was healthy and smart with some discoloration on her palm... no biggie.
Reply:My son has a birth mark on his left pointing finger. It actually got me in trouble with WIC until they called his doctor to confirm it was a birthmark. His has also grown with him and it doesn't bother him at all. If your baby is fine in everything else I wouldn't worry about it.
Reply:if it doesn't bother her then let her like it. i have never heard of it on the palm either but i think they can be anywhere.
Reply:i think this is nothing to worry about. if it does not bother her it should not be a problem.

btw i heard if the mother is pregnant and she eats something then scratches a place it will leave a birth mark there on the baby.
Reply:Is she fair skinned and has coffee colored spots and patches on her body? I have that. It is called cafe au lait spots, they are generally common and not harmful. In my case, they were a symptom of neurofibromatosis.
Reply:I've never heard of it no. Take her to a dermatologist if you're concerned.
