Why does putting salt and an ice cube in the palm of your hand burn you?
The salt lowers the temperature at which water freezes so your hand is made colder than if there was so ice. Mythbusters did an experiment wherein they could cool a six pack to a pleasing temperature in mere minutes using salt and ice

Reply:I am not sure, however, I do know people add salt to ice to keep the ice frozen while making homemade ice cream in a ice cream processor.
That might have something to with it.
