I am trying to create a living room into a beachy theme for my best friend. I only know large palm plant will do a nice touch into the room however, I want MORE. Do you know of any? Links would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!!! Happy Patrick's Day, by the way!!!
What plants or flowers to go along with beachy theme other than Palm ??
Well, if you just want some typical beachy plants: Sea Oats, Pampas grass type of plants, coconut trees/coconuts... The grasses can be kept dry and coconuts can be great accents for a long time.
There are LOTS of flowering plants on various beaches, but most people don't know them. However, there are also lots of tropical flowers that don't grow actually on the beach (or do, but more so off of it) that are associated with beach themes. This includes: hibiscus, lilies (tiger lilies, for example), orchids, hawaiian flower, bird of paradise, etc... pretty much anything you can find on a hawaiian shirt. If you want the real thing, then you're looking at temp/water/light requirements that can be pretty demanding to put in a living room.... However, orchids can be fairly low care with a lamp and a decorative fountain nearby (for moisture -- plus water when needed). Also, look into some maiden hair fern, which could work in a beachy theme imho -- it has shell-shaped leaves and resembles some less-known beach plants.
Reply:Hibiscus comes to mind, but you'd probably have to go for silk, not real. I doubt if they do well indoors. Orchids would be OK with enough light and there are a huge variety of them, Some require less care than others. Again, artificial may be good (Target has some nice ones). I'm also partial to bouganviella (sp?) which you should be able to grow in a hanging pot in good sunlight. Remember thet "tropical" plants need it to be warm.
Reply:hibiscus...
Reply:We recently did some decorating for a formal living room. The clients wanted a beachy theme also. We used salmon and red colored coral to pop in color. Cat-tails were also used. You could use those things along with the palm trees.
